IQALUIT FIRE DEPARTMENT |
|
|
Located in Iqaluit, Nunavut, The City of Iqaluit Fire Department (IFD) is a composite department which has 19 full time staff members, and 25 volunteers. The Department is responsible for Fire and Medical calls in and around the City of Iqaluit, with calls exceeding 1500 per year. Operating out of one hall it is staffed by two personnel 24 hrs a day consisting of 10 hour day shifts and 14 hour night shifts to cover medical calls, and fire calls. When a confirmed fire call is received, all members of the IFD are paged and responds to the halls for the call. IFD operates the community’s EMS service with two dedicated medical units. One is crewed with the station crew, while the second can be crewed within minutes after paging any of the department’s medical personnel. Check out our photo page. The Iqaluit Fire Department deploys a wide variety of specialized fire apparatus and equipment. Because of Iqaluit’s remoteness, there is no automatic mutual aid system for the community to depend upon for outside help. Therefore, it is vital that the department is equipped to handle all emergency situations encountered in its response area. The Iqaluit Fire Department, and the Iqaluit Firefighter Association, would like to give thanks to the spouses and family members of our crew, for their support and understanding. Without you it wouldn’t be the same. Once again thank you very much! Also, The Iqaluit Firefighters Association would like to thank the citizens and various businesses of Iqaluit for their support in its fundraising efforts. This support enables the department to purchase much-needed fire suppression and rescue equipment that is above and beyond the department’s budget.
